A five-night itinerary in Rwanda, combining a visit to chimps in the Nyungwe National Park and gorillas in the Parc National de Volcans. Both experiences are amazing and not to be missed.

On arrival at Kigale Airport, met by our representative and drive to Huye arriving for lunch (150km - 2 hours 30 minutes). Time permitting, visit the Rwanda National Museum. Drive to Nyungwe National Park (150km - 3 hours 30 minutes). Overnight: Nyungwe Top View Lodge
A very early wake up call, then depart for a hike into Nyungwe Forest in search of chimps. Other species to be found include Colobus monkeys and lots of forest dwelling birds. In the afternoon relax or enjoy optional activities offered by the lodge and the park. Overnight: Nyungwe Top View Lodge
After breakfast drive to Lake Kivu, the largest of all the lakes that fill the valleys of Rwanda. Cormoran Lodge is near Karongi, approximately 3 hours 30 minutes from Nyungwe; Lake Kivu Serena Hotel is near Gisenyi, approximately 6 hours from Nyungwe. If time permits take a boat ride to visit nearby islands (optional extra). Overnight: Lake Kivu Serena Hotel
Spend the morning at the Lake. After lunch drive to Musanze in the northwest of Rwanda, the main base for gorilla trekking (170km - approximately 4 hours 30 minutes).
A very early morning transfer to the Park Office for gorilla trekking formalities before starting your trek. Treks vary in duration depending on which gorilla group you are assigned to. After locating your gorilla group, you will spend approximately one hour in their company before heading back down the volcano slopes. Lunch at the lodge with the afternoon to relax.
After breakfast, drive to Kigali (approximately 2 hours 30 minutes).
