The breathtaking mountainous region of Damaraland is home to a variety of animals including desert elephants, black rhinos, giraffes and Hartmann’s Mountain Zebras, all of which inhabit the near-barren landscape. Damaraland is also home to Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain, which features thousands of well-preserved ancient rock paintings, including the notable ‘White Lady.’ Damaraland also features The Spitzkoppe, an ancient volcano favoured by climbers and one of Namibia’s most recognisable landmarks. The rocky outcrops of Twyfelfontein also highlight remarkable Bushmen engravings, which are considered the clearest etchings in Africa. Visitors are also amazed by the Petrified Forest, offering a haunted landscape of gigantic fossilised trees dating back millions of years.
