South Africa is one of the most exciting and varied destinations on offer. From the delights of Cape Town to the views of the Garden Route – voted one of the world’s best road trips, to the diverse wildlife of Kruger National Park, to some of the world’s finest vineyards, South Africa is one of our team’s favourite destinations—and for good reason.

Whatever duration you choose, it probably won’t be long enough. Wildlife seekers will love the Big Five safaris and the whale-watching opportunities. South African culture and cuisine are too good to ignore; you’ll find plenty to enjoy, especially around Cape Town and the winelands. History buffs will have much to see and do from the country’s past, especially regarding apartheid and the Anglo-Boer Wars. South African holidays offer superb views of the intensely beautiful natural landscape. This year-round destination delivers wonderfully diverse experiences.

Cape Town offers so many unique adventures that it is difficult to know where to begin. With its mountains, excellent surf, vibrant nightlife, semi-desert wildlife, exquisite winelands, and rich culture and history, it is unlikely to be fully discovered in a single visit. Overlooking the city is Table Mountain, a short cable car journey, or a rewarding walk away, offering stunning panoramic views over the city and the Atlantic Ocean.

Along the coast is the Garden Route, where mountainside forests give way to the ocean, which is often heralded as the best drive in the world. Hermanus and Plettenberg Bay provide some of the best whale watching opportunities on the globe.

Kruger National Park is one of Africa’s most accessible and varied wildlife parks. Residing in its two million hectares are the ‘Big Five ‘—buffaloes, rhinos, elephants, leopards, and lions—and a safari tour offers the best chance of seeing them. Other wildlife includes giraffes, cheetahs, and hippos.
