Angama Amboseli sits inside the Kimana Sanctuary, a 5,700-acre stretch of land that does more than shelter wildlife. It forms a living corridor, linking Amboseli National Park to the Chyulu Hills and Tsavo West, and keeping open the ancient routes elephants have walked for generations. The sanctuary is community-owned, with 844 local landowners behind its protection, and the lodge works alongside Big Life Foundation to keep this fragile ecosystem intact.
With just 10 suites, Angama Amboseli is an intimate camp built around Angama’s usual signatures: floor-to-ceiling views, considered design and warm Kenyan hospitality. Guests have exclusive traversing rights across the sanctuary, so early starts and after-dark drives are part of the rhythm here, not the exception. And with Mount Kilimanjaro visible from almost every corner of camp, the reward for an early rise is watching the mountain emerge from the clouds while a family of elephants moves past in silence. This is also prime territory for Africa’s remaining super tuskers, elephants whose tusks are so heavy they nearly touch the ground.
Days can be as active or unhurried as guests like. Beyond game drives and walking safaris in the sanctuary, there’s a half- or full-day excursion into Amboseli National Park itself, including the historic “pinch point” where the migratory corridor narrows to its tightest stretch. Back at camp, there is a photographic studio with kit hire and guidance, an art gallery, a weaving studio and a safari shop, while the rim-flow pool has its own drinking trough for the elephants who wander through for a visit.
ACCOMMODATION
The ten suites at Angama Amboseli are generously proportioned, with 65 square metres inside and a further 34 square metres of private veranda, each built around a super king bed (or twin on request) facing Kilimanjaro. Bathrooms have both indoor and outdoor showers, twin vanities and a separate WC, with a tub available for families travelling with younger children. Two sets of suites interconnect, and three triples suit children aged 12 and under, with childminding on hand for those who need it. Every suite includes a complimentary personal bar, in-suite tea and coffee, a safe and binoculars, and one suite is fully wheelchair accessible.
Angama Amboseli lies within the Kimana Sanctuary in southern Kenya, a 3.5-hour drive from Nairobi along a paved road, or a short flight with Safarilink direct to the sanctuary's own airfield. Amboseli National Park and the Chyulu Hills are both roughly 90 minutes away by road, and private charters are welcome to land at Kimana. Mount Kilimanjaro dominates the skyline from almost every point in camp, with the sanctuary itself forming a vital wildlife corridor between Amboseli, Tsavo West and the Chyulu Hills.
